Arctic winds and frost mean some areas of the UK have seen temperatures drop to -14C (6.8F) with bitter conditions forcing schools to shut on Tuesday.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice until Thursday, with northern parts of the UK especially affected.
